Important infrastructure decisions are made as a group. The CAB module formalizes your change board: who is on it, what role each member plays and what was decided on each change.
What it is and how it helps
The Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews changes that, because of their risk or impact, should not be approved by one person. In Swift Support you can set up one or several boards —for example, a general CAB and a specialized one— and define their members with clear roles.
The roles reflect how a real board works: the chair runs the meetings, voting members cast their vote on each change and observers attend without voting. Each member has a status, a join date and optional notes, such as their department or role on the board.
In CAB meetings, the changes on the agenda are reviewed and the decision on each one is recorded, with date and owner. The change history then shows not only that it was approved, but when, in which meeting and by whom.
Defined roles prevent two common problems: boards where nobody feels responsible for deciding, and decisions made by a single person without the perspective of the other areas. The CAB brings infrastructure, applications, security and the business together around every relevant change.
